In Japan, gargling with green tea is thought to help get rid of seasonal colds

This is true. Tea has been used for medicinal purposes for thousands of years. Scientific findings have linked green tea consumption to the the slowing or even prevention of conditions such as heart disease, rheumatoid arthritis, impaired immune disease and liver disease.

It is also said that green tea has anti-bacterial properties that helps prevent tooth decay and there is used in Japan to help get rid of seasonal colds.
